We´re all equal before a wave

Der Blogtitel ist ein Zitat vom Surfer Laird Hamilton.
Heute ist ein lazy Sunday mit der Sunday Times, jeder Menge Tee, Kuchen und Kaffee und das Auto wird einmal nicht bewegt. Schließlich haben wir einen 5 km Strand direkt vor der Tür (ok, Abhang runter und hoch...), zu dem andere hinfahren. Die Restaurant/Pub/Bar Red Barn  an der Esplanade ist nun auch für einen guten Monat geschlossen, aber heute ist der Strandparkplatz geöffnet.

Ich mache einen langen Strandspaziergang mit einem merkwürdigen Winterwetter. Es ist nicht kalt, es gibt eine Wolkendecke, aussehend wir Wolkenstreifen, eng aneinander, nicht allzu dick, aber das Sonnenlicht kommt nicht durch, allenfalls einmal für ein paar Minuten, milchig gefiltert. Es ist hellgrau. Die Fotos erscheinen dennoch dunkler, da das Gegenlicht immer noch hell ist.

Am Strand sind , wie immer, Surfer, Hundebesitzer und Familien und ein paar vereinzelte Strandläufer, die in keine der Kategorien fallen.

The consistent west-facing beachbreaks, in particular the fabled low tide barrels at Croyde, are rarely empty as locals, and visitors from as far a field as London try to get their fix. The other large beginner-friendly beaches thankfully absorb the numbers well. The whole west-facing coast of Devon and Cornwall favours W/SW swell and winds in the E quadrant. When big W swells close out the open beaches and the wind is in the S the north-facing coast of Devon hides some classy gems. The open beaches are reliable year round, the sheltered spots are winter only and as with most of the British Isles, September to November is prime time."

Auf dieser Surfseite stehen alle aktuellen Bedingungen. Die Wassertemperatur im Januar ist in der Regel 9 Grad und Wetsuits, die den Kopfe mit bedecken (außer dem Gesicht natürlich) sind empfohlen.

Der Report für heute lautet: "Clean to Cleanish thigh to waist high fun waves to be had out here this morning with light onshore W sea breezes. Check out the low tide banks and afternoon pushing tide for an extra foot or two and the very best of it folks."

Auf der Redbull Seite ist Croyde (Strand der Nachbarbucht) auf Platz 1.

Backed by rolling sand dunes and the Devon countryside beyond, Croyde bay sits between two headlands, with Woolacombe and Saunton Sands beaches on either side. Longboarders and beginners should head to Saunton Sands, where gentle Atlantic rollers combine with a long stretch of soft sand for a more relaxed surf spot. Best for: Beginners to experts".
